Emerson Knives Chisel Grind

  • Hi,

I have a growing interest in Emerson Knives lately, mainly the CQC 7, HD-7 and SOFCK-B.
They all have the Emerson Tanto Chisel Grind blade and I was wondering if anyone here has any thoughts or experience with this type of blade and would like to share them.

English or German language doesent matter. I just write in my mother language (English) because its FASTER !! :D

    Thanks !

  • Hate it.

If you just need it for self defense or last ditch tool... OK.
EDC is a no-go with tha fucked-up grind IMHO. Any spyderco will do better. I never managed to cut a clean slice of bred or sausage or whatever with that chisel grind. I love Emersons designs, but the chisel is on the wrong side fpr all right-handed people.

  • I love my emersons, never had a problem with the chisel-grinds and the ergos on the folders are hard to match !
Their Chisel or V-Grind is easy and very quick to resharpen if you follow their instructions on the homepage.
The only issues with emerson' knives often heard of is the liner-lock wear /lockup-problems (But i only heard good things bout their customer service)

The chisel-grind for sure is not for everybody, some love em - some hate em .. the best you can do is try it out yourself.

  • I contacted Emerson twice about a broken stop pin on a Commander, once from my private email account and once from my police email account. They never even bothered to answer.

  • Well, I suppose the Chisel to be an adequate work blade. I have one Specwar, I really love it, great dynamics ;) and a very durable fine edge. NASA has found the specwar to be good enough for space qualification... There's nothing more to say.

  • They don´t cut a lot of bread and stuff up there, I guess.

In addition the NASA knife looks like this:

A typical plastic bag cutter, you could use a Benchmade Rescue hook just as well.

The mere fact that someone adopted something somewhen is an invalid argument.

    Some like chisels, some don´t. I don´t.

I do also not like Chisel Grind, but what is with the Emersons with a V-Grind, do they cut better?
Sorry, that I have to ask in German. Bei den Emersons mit V-Grind ist der Schliff auch nicht sehr hoch gezogen, wie sind deren Schneideigenschaften?

  • Die haben die Schneide auch nur als Chisel ausgebildet... :loser

  • Damn I've just forgotten, I have a SARK in my Ops-Pack - it's the baddest rescue knife ever! I love it!

I have a Rescue hook too, it just lacks the coolness factor ;)

  • Thanks for all the views and comments about this Type of blade. I guess I will have to use it for a while to make my own opinion about it.
I have read so much about the CQC 7 in the US Forums being the grandfather of the Tactical folder and such. I thought I should check them out just to see if I was missing something.

I mean, knife nuts like myself and most of you all here can´t have enough info knowlage about knives. :whistling:

  • I´ve got some EKI´s and i love them for their ergos! I ve seen higher Qualitystandards, but i never used those knives. After i recieved my first Persian i got a CQC7 the next month, after that i sold all my other Folders except some SAK´s and a Opinel No. 8. In the meantime i have seven CQC7 in A and B in all sizes and four Persians! There will be more in the Future!!!
To me the Emersons are perfect and for breakfast i still use a ordinary Butterknife :D

    regards Olli

p.s. Looking for CQC7, HD7,CQC12,CQC8 and of course Persians....

    p.p.s black/plain prefered

  • I love the emerson chisel grind an tanto designe, in the last 12 years a benchmade E.D was my favorite knife for every day using.
Finaly last year i change them to a HD7, i think with this knife you cant to be wrong.

But dont forget an emerson want to be an tactical knife, for breakfast you can buy many others and there will be doing better.
