Thanks for showing!
Which wood did You used for the hook?
-
Really nice hook
Thanks for the pics !!!
And of course i want to see the monster fish you´ll catch with this hook -
made many of these , during courses and demo weekends, I prefer a piece of bone or antler for the hook.
But strong wood like beech , oak or hawthorn will do well also.
This time I used willow, its a demo hook, therefore its a bit big....

some kind of big, do you think, you'll catch something with it ? How does it work ?

yes, thats where I started with in the thread......its big, because its a demo model. In this way it is easier to show to students.
I made many of these, some only 10 mm big, made out of thorns.

Is it necessary/useful to dry/harden the pointed piece of wood?
-
yes, it is.
when you find a piece of bone , its even better.

Bonehock works well
Everyone here knows how long it can take and how hard it is to catch fish even with modern and professional equipment.
You need skills and patience - or you build a efficient fishtrap. There are several ones. One includes one or more hooks which are tied up to a improvised kind of buoy which is fixed to the waterside, so that the fishangle works alone
If you build that buoy tighten to a wooden cross and put the fishing rope on one far end, the other end will rise out of the water with a bite and give you a sign that food is almost ready

But explain what you will catch with this uncatchy thingibob ? Fishing is with good tackle and lots of expirience and knowledge of the fish standing, not easy !

AGAIN:
its a demo hook, so its big!
You can make this very small.
Maybe its better to try it for yourself and see if you can catch anything, I know i can, but I am angling for sport for 36 six years by now,
If you catch anything, you eat, if you dont, try again or go hungry.I am in survival for quite some time now, the idea is to improvise. If you have or find some metal wire, you are better of, if you have some chemical sharpened fishing hooks with you, you are king, but most people dont carry their angling equipment all day with them.
Remember: Trust is man;s best bait.good luck,

I think it's nice. Shows some great whittling skills and Ray Mears has shown the same technique in one of his vids. It's a good bushcraft/primitive living skill. In terms of energy efficient survival it is more of a last ditch thing. Being cold/hypothermic and hungry will make this quite an effort. Of course a kit like the one shown in the link above will make it much easier. But still: great skills, nice demo modell. Thanks for showing!

Hi Jan, don't wanted to be rude and offending, the hook is realy nice woodwork and craftmanship, well done !
But lot of this stuff shown in Books doesn't work well in extreme conditions, to much effort, energy sucking. This will work in the sea with a swarm, like the tlingit or haida tribes used to fish. But in normal lakes and rivers, it will be a devastating expierince, while starving, waisting energy and time, this is nuts.
Probably it will bring sucksess, modding it with some flares of emergency foil, for flickering, glimmering, to attrackt more fish.
