Beamshots from some newer AAA lights

  • redled asked me if these beamshots could be posted on this forum and here they are.

Beamshots of AAA flashlights, january 2010

This collection of beamshots includes some of the new AAA flashlights, but also some older ones. The penlight are 2xAAA, 3xAAA and a single 3xAAAA. The lights are (Same sequence as picture): 4Sevens Preon I, Titanium IlluminaTi, VersaTi ET10, Fenix LD01 XP-E, Fenix LD01 XR-E, ITP A3 EOS, LiteFlux LF2XT, 4Sevens Preon II, Sunlite Slim, Sunlite Slim2, Fenix LD05, Streamlight Stylus Pro, Sunlite SlimJr
Note: LD01 XR-E is the stainless steel version, the ordinary version looks exactly like the XP-E version, except from the front (Check entry on LD01 XR-E for photos).

All lights are tested with freshly charged eneloop batteries, except Sunlite, where I used alkaline batteries.

The new AAA flashlights are close in light output, except ET10 that is a bit special. But when looking at the penlights, there are some huge differences, the new leds has made some very powerful lights possible on small batteries.

This graph shows the all the brightness settings for all the lights, as can be seen only some of penlight has adjustable brightness. There are also huge differences in the low levels, the old LD01 does not have a really low level, most other multilevel lights has an acceptable low level.

Measuring the brightness at 1 meter gives an idea about the throw. This is not only depend on the amount of light from the flashlight, but also the size of the led and the reflector. Sunlite has a very good reflector and a small led, this gives a good throw, next in line is Fenix. Preon and IlluminaTi has a wider beam. ET10 has a very wide beam.

  • Thank you Henrik for your trouble. I welcome it that you followed my invitation.

Have a good time with us

Maybe we put your Review to a better position in our forum. Like other forums also, we have a department for reviews. However, your review fits in the best way into the flashlights column.

  • HKJ often makes such great and informative reviews which can be read on CPF.

Two thumbs up for this terrible work!!!

One word to the lights : If we resume ourselves to 1 x AAA, the Titanium Innovations IlluminaTi is the best AAA I've seen so far. As for the beam it is followed closely by the Preon1, but the IlluminaTi is so much nicer! It is available also with a Q5 in a limited version which is cheaper.

I miss the Maratac AAA here, which should be the best 1 x AAA in terms of quality/price relation. It sports a Q5 and is available in HAIII, ss and ss polished (looks like titanium).

    Greets,

    Henk

I might also post some more beamshots in this forum. :)

The IlluminaTi is a very nice design and I also like it very much, but the driver in IlluminaTi, ITP A3 EOS, Maratac and Preon does looke very equal in behaviour when I analyzed them for my reviews (Sorry, the reviews are only in Danish).

The Maratac and ITP A3 EOS are basically the same light, just with a different look, i.e. all (light) measurements and beamshots for ITP A3 EOS are also valid for Maratac.
In Europe I believe that the ITP is the better buy and it also has a better hole for a split ring (But the Maratac looks better).

Here is a picture of both lights:

  • where to buy and how much is it ? ?(

The IlluminaTi is designed and sold by Battery Junction and they do not, as far as I know, have any resellers in Europe.
Preon is sold by 4Sevens and he has a shop in Europe.
Sunlite is sold in their own shop in US.
ITP and Fenix is easy to find in Europe.
LiteFlux is sold by two people on cpf, one of them has even made and sold titanium versions of it (This is a very nice light, but rather expensive).
Maratac is only sold by CountyComm and they do not sell to Europe, the ones I have was because an American bought them and mailed them to me.
