indeed, a sharp stone ( flint ) or a piece of broken glass works great.
Most of times I use the back of my knife, but when there is a coating on your blade ( Thats one of the reasons that my knives dont have a coating) you can use the cutting edge near the ricasso, or the tip of the blade.
Be careful when you use the back of the saw of your Leatherman, you can press the linerlock .
