To make it easier for our international members to understand my review, I decided to do it in english.
First off, the EDC 4 is a good price/value package. You definitely get what you pay for. The blade is nicely finished, except for some minor issues that could be done a little bit better, pictures will follow.
The knife feels very comfortable in my hands, not to big, not to small, ideal size for EDC or even a longer trip to the woods. The handle has a nice contour and is not to bulky, yet grippy. All corners are nicely deburred.
When it arrived here, it was very dull, a few minutes on the Tormek T3 solved that issue. I sharpened the knive to somewhat 40° inclusive. The blade gained a very fine edge, not as toothy as for example S30V. It was comparably easy to sharpen, but kept a good edge really long. Even after some light chopping tasks the knife was not as dull as expected. A few seconds on the Tormek hone fully restored the razor-sharp edge. My guess is that even a finer edge could easily be applied without loosing to much edge retention performance. With the 40° inclusive I did not experience chips or dents, at least no visible ones. The steel performed as expected. Corrosion was not an issue for me, in general Elmax is not prone to corrosion and the stonewash finish creates a fine surface without "deep" (we are taklking about probably 10 micrometers....) cavities that contribute to corrosion.
My guess is that even slight contact with salt water is not a problem.
I am very happy with ELMAX and Zero Tolerance, so am I with the EDC4. Again, no surprise concerning steel performance.
However I am not satisfied with a few details: The scales show lots of machining marks, something that definitely could be done better. If I put that in contrast to the manufacturers retail price, this could be neglected and easily fixed with some sand paper and a fine honing compound.
The sheath: It is definitely a masterpiece of kydex craftsmanship! Very nice fit and finish. The knife locks up with an audible click and good retention, without beeing to hard to be easily pulled out. However, the holes were not deburred after drilling them and some minor burr could still be seen. Again, nothing that really impacts the good overall appearance. Beeing able to mount a Tek-Lock rounds up the entire package.
My picture addressing some of the issues explained above will follow, these are stored on my iPhone, what currently is beeing replaced...
Thanks for the opportunity to test the knife!
