I made this kwaiken from stainless damast and coyote coloured stingray. I asked Tom Mayo for permission to use the Moa pattern, wich he granted.
A 357 federal cartridge is placed as menuki. The shell has a tritium vial.

The first difference between the two steels is that the 690 is melted the traditional way. This way leaves more room for errors and non wanted side effects.
The casting proces limits the amount of additives like vanadium for example.
The 390 is a third generation superclean powder steel wich is enriched with lots of additives like chrominum, vanadium etc . Because of the powder melt, these additives can be large in percentage, making the steels performance better.
The powder melt system is very expensive, so that explains some of the price difference.
The steels like 390 were also developed for working conditions under higher temperatures. They are tempered at high degrees so they are more resistant to heat.
This make these steel also better for applying a dlc coatinb.
Think of the 690 being plain landrover, and the m390 being a full armored abrahams tank

Das stimmt, es wirden zwei kiridashis in cpm m4. Einer wird stonewashed mit coyote braun stingray und ein coyote kydex scheide.
Diese messer wird etwas groser.

Splittert Carbon leichter als G10 bzw Micarta?
Habe mit Carbon selbst bisher leider noch keine Erfahrungen machen können, deshalb die ganzen Fragen.

I don t know about the carbon, because i have not worked with it yet. If you want to test the micarta against the g10, contact me through pm. I have some small scrap pieces of both materials and it is no effort to put some in the mail to you.
I think the most robust material from your list is the carbon fiber.
Aluminium is relatively soft and needs to be hard anodized to hold up. Micarta and G10 are also good materials. G10 is stronger than micarta but is is also a bit heavier.
For fixed blades i like micarta ( canvas ) because of the feel and durability and the fact that it is lighter than G10. On my folder i prefer G10 or carbon because i use no titanium liner.

Titanium kiridashi in black cera kote
Did a little test today, i hammered a puuko i made into a brick. The blade thickness of the puuko is .140 ( 3,5 mm ). Blade is made of 3 V.
The back survived the countless hammer blows rather well.
